More Random Thoughts

No trip to Door County, or anywhere on the shores of Lake Michigan for that matter, would be complete without visiting some of the many light houses that dot the Wisconsin and Michigan shoreline. At one time there were hundreds of these structures lining the Wisconsin and Michigan shorelines guiding the shipping boats on lake Michigan away from danger. Today with global positioning satellites they are pretty much redundant as ships know right where they are to within a few yards at any time. At one time Lake Michigan was a busy waterway hauling raw materials and finished goods to all the cities and ports on the lake. Now most of what we use is made overseas and comes in through the Atlantic and Pacific ports. All through the 1800's and early 1900's Sturgeon Bay had a large ship building industry. Like so many things in this country it's long gone. Posted below are a couple of the light houses we visited.
