Crazybill's birthday
Monday October 13th. We drove the motorhome up to Cardinal Ridge RV&B, which is in Franklin, North Carolina to look at the leaves and buy some apples. Apparently the apples in Krogers or Food Lion aren't good enough. Other than being a drive day Monday was an unremarkable day. Once again our trusty Garmin led us astray in the middle of nowhere and I had to drive 8 miles before I could find a place to turn around and backtrack. Tuesday October 14th. My 75th birthday. The day started early. Very early. I was awakened at 1:00 a.m. to the sound of rain on the roof of the coach. Actually rain is an understatement. It was pouring a rain of biblical proportions. A rain such as this is a little like going over Niagra Falls in a steel barrel. The rain was accompanied by a strong, gusty wind. I was awakened several times before morning by the wind and rain which seems to have increased intensity with each awakening. Come morning we both awoke to a scene right out of Wuthering Heights. The rain was coming down in horizontal sheets and the trees were leaning over and looked like they were being shaken to death by a giant, invisible hand. Oh well, into each life a little rain must fall. The day continued in fits and starts all day long. Each time I thought the worst was over the wind and rain would start up again with renewed vigor and strength. By mid afternoon we lost power and I had to crank up the generator. As the day wore on we slowly discovered all the things we should have brought along and didn't. I have a sizable shopping list for tomorrow which promises to be a much better day according to the weatherman. The rain has finally stopped, my wife has gone to bed and I am sitting here in silence for the first time in 24 hours. Well, not total silence. The generator is humming away in the back of the coach and is starting to get on my nerves. As usual I will keep you posted.
