Cardinal Ridge Update

Regular followers of my Travel Blog are familiar with Cardinal Ridge Farm RV&B. Since our visit last year Ken and Kathleen, the owners of Cardinal Ridge, have become involved in a new project, a fawn rescue program. I never knew there was such a thing but apparently there is a need to rescue orphan fawns and return them to the wild after they are nursed back to health. Sometimes the doe deer gets killed by a car, sometimes by a hunter, sometimes by accident but when they do sometimes they leave behind an orphan fawn. Game Wardens or locals with a heart find them and bring them to Ken and Kathleen for rescue. The very young ones have to be bottle fed like a baby until they can eat regular deer foods whatever that may be. As they got farther into this they erected a baby deer house with a fenced in pen enclosure so they can be locked up for safekeeping. After they become acclimated to their new home they are left to run the property. My hats are off to Ken and Kathleen for taking care of these little creatures and spending the time and money to do it. There is a downside to all this upside and it seems that the young deer, like one's own children, don't want to leave home. They keep coming back to the pen for food and shelter. Like many of our governments social policies  they have inadvertently turned these cute little deer into furry little Democrats. Nevertheless my hat is off to Ken and Kathleen. for the time and energy they put into this. Pictures of the three residents of this orphanage below.

  1. Thanks so much Bill and Mary for your updates about Ken and Kathy at Cardinal Ridge. I'm homesick for them but your pictures and blog help reconnect my soul.
