Nanny brought home

Probably most of you know the story but, on the off chance there is someone out there who doesn't know the story, here is how it goes. Back in the 80's Mary's mother had a stroke and was not able to fend for herself properly. At the time she lived in Columbus, Ohio and we had just moved to Columbia South Carolina. After much discussion it was decided to bring Nanny down to live with us and Mary and her sister Martha in Fort Myers would share taking care of her on a rotating basis. As it worked out we made the switch every 3-4 months. We would meet half way, usually in St. Augustine Florida or Amelia Island or Jacksonville and transfer Nanny over to her new caregiver for the next couple of months. I think it worked out for everyone as no one had to care for her completely and it gave each sister half a year off. Time passed and eventually so did Nanny. On our last trip back from Florida after Nanny had passed I stopped in a truck stop in Hardeeville, South Carolina to get gas. Hanging on the wall in the gas station was a giant rag doll at least 5' tall. There was no price tag on it and the girl behind the counter didn't know how much it was so I just left after paying for my gas. It gave me the nucleus of an idea though. We had met at the halfway mark in Florida for so many years it seemed a shame not to continue the tradition. I went online and found a giant rag doll and had it sent to the house. It was perfect. We named it Nanny and ever since we take her to Florida on our winter trip south and drop her off at Mary's sister. The following year we pick her up and return her to South Carolina. This year we took her to Florida for safekeeping for the next year. Pictures below.
