Crazybill's day from hell
It all started out so well. The sun was shining, the breeze had dropped off to gentle and the temperatures were shirt sleeve warm. Yesterday was to be a travel day and we didn't have far to go so I started leisurely getting ready to go. I started by hooking up the toad car. Normally I hook up one side and then walk around the car to hook up the other. This time I decided to take the short cut and step over the tow bar and cables. My flip flop caught on something and I went down like a load of bricks on one knee and my elbow. All skinned up, looks terrible and hurt like hell at the time. Bad way to start the day. Got out of the park and I saw a Raceway gas station a little ways down the road. Raceways are usually pretty good about being roomy so I pulled and gassed up. Leaving I took the wrong exit and wound up getting trapped. Couldn't move forward, couldn't move back. Unhooked the toad car and parked it. Backed up the RV and moved it to the next door parking lot. Fetched the toad car and hooked it back up this time making sure I walked around the car. Hit the road. Got to just a little above Miami and my Garmin bit me again. It had planned out a route that was basically cross country on secondary roads. We drove about 30 miles before we figure this out. Miraculously we saw a sign that said 75 to the right. Wanting to get back on 75, which is the old Alligator Alley, we turned right. It took us to 75 allright but only after about 20 miles of driving through a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale. Finally made 75 to Naples and once again we were on the road. Made it to Upriver RV Park without further incident. I stopped short of the office to unhook the toad car. Crap. Somewhere between Key Largo and Fort Myers the driveshaft disconnect had come apart and I couldn't engage the driveshaft. I left the toad car beside the road and drove in and got checked in. Had a little dinner, chilled out for awhile and then decided to try and engage the driveshaft manually. Walked back to the toad car, jacked it up, put blocks under everything and crawled under the car. After trying every possible combination of pushing and pulling levers I finally hit the right one and the driveshaft engaged. Drove back to the RV and parked. Success. Almost. Earlier I had broken out the lawn chairs and place them on the patio. Under a tree. Mary was sitting on one of the chairs and a bird pooped on her. Went out this morning to drain the tanks and somehow got the hose hook up wopper jawed and had a miniature fountain before I closed the valve. Put that to rights and finished draining the tanks. All in all a day from hell. I am now patiently sitting here waiting for the Mobile Repair guy to come and see if he can fix the linkage on the driveshaft disconnect. As usual will keep you posted.
