Day 3

Day 3 was a drive day. We drove from Jacksonville to Port St. Lucie a distance of about 250 miles. The skies were blue, the sun was shining and every few miles the outside temperature went up a little. Got to Port St. Lucie and the temperature was 67 degrees, the sun was shining and a gentle breeze was coming off the ocean. Geographically Port St. Lucie is the first place heading south where you feel you are in florida. As usual nothing works well for me. I am like that little guy in the Lil Abner cartoon that walks around with a little rain cloud above his head. The first problem was I forgot to pack my coax cables when we left home. The one I had was 5' short of the cable outlet. No problem. I made a mental note to make a trip to Walmart. Fired up my dish antenna and got a good signal on the 61.5 satellite. Front tv worked great. Rear tv no dice. Messed around and messed around for three hours before I gave up. In the meantime my computer told me updates were available so I downloaded and installed them. Ubuntu doesn't like Dell wifi computer cards so it kicked it out leaving me with no wifi on my computer. I forgot to pack a spare usb wifi stick so I added that to the Walmart list. Finally bit the bullet and went to Walmart. The lady at the park check in place told me it was a piece of cake. Two right turns and I would be right there. I made the two right turns and turned into a place that looked like a Walmart. It was a Sams Club. Going around the parking lot I lost my bearings and made a few wrong turns before I turned to my trusty smartphone and yelled Walmart at it. Following the instructions on my Navigator program I finally found Walmart. Found a 25' coax cable and a usb wifi stick. Went to check out and that's when it started. The couple ahead me at the 20 item or less check out counter were trying to buy a car seat for their baby. The mother said she wanted to try her card to see if it would work. A chill ran down my spine. Whatever card she put in failed and screwed up the transaction. It took 10 minutes to get a supervisor there to cancel out the transaction. Meanwhile all the other lines were backed up 10 deep so I figured I might as well wait. After the cancelling of the transaction they had to split the cost of the car seat between 2 different cards. That took even more time. By now I am ready to kill those idiots. Why do I always get behind people that have such incredibly complicated transactions. Left Walmart finally, went back to the rv park, hooked up the coax cable, plugged in the wifi stick and all was well with the world. This morning I got up and while drinking my coffee pondered my inability to get the rear tv working on dish. I cleaned out all the junk above the tv and found the wire that comes from the back of the Dish receiver had got buried under some hats and gloves. Hooked it up and the rear tv is now working. Meanwhile the woman I may not be married to much longer is fuming and fussing about the heat. Last night she wanted me to turn the thermostat on the heater down a little so I did but forgot to turn it back on after I reset it. It was cold as a barn when we woke up this morning. Between my tv troubles, computer troubles and heater fiascos she was a little out of sorts. Maybe a more than a little. In parting I would like to ask a question. A frequent comment I hear from the women in our group of friends go like this. Bill, now you be good. Bill, behave yourself. Bill, stay out of trouble. What's with this? I am such a sweet guy that my employees had a T shirt made up for me years ago with S.O.B on the front of it. I figured that stood for Sweet Old Bill. In any event I want to know what makes all these women think I'm going to be bad or get in trouble.
