Fort Walton Beach Update

Well, we sure shot ourself in the foot weather wise. We left the sunny, warm, gentle breezes of Fort Myers where we basked in the high 70's and low 80's to come here to cold, drizzly, rainy Fort Walton Beach where the temperatures are in the 50's with constant rain or threat of rain. They say the sun shines here but we have seen no evidence of it. The climate here reminds me of Ohio. Ohio is a place where they take Kindergarten kids up in an airplane to show them what the sun looks likes so they can identify with the word sun in textbooks. Not everything is bad. We have had a couple of nice experiences while we were here. Friday night we went to a musical at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The star was a priest that goes by the name of Father Licari. If you have ever seen Bob Dylan perform all you have to do is imagine Bob Dylan in a Priest outfit. He is a dead ringer for Bob complete with the guitar and the hanging  harmonica. Photo below.

There were a number of other performances ranging from a Spanish Choir group to a violinist that played several haunting pieces that sent chills up your spine. Monday night we went to the Marina Cafe with Father Mike and good friends of his Regina and Bill. This restaurant is world class. Columbia South Carolina has nothing like it and this place would stand up to the best of anything in San Francisco or New York. I had the Andouille Encrusted Red Fish. Andouille is a cajun sausage so it had a little kick to it. Photo Below.

This was followed up by a coconut cream pie that you wouldn't believe. It was the best coconut cream pie I have ever put in my mouth. The picture below does not do it justice.

Last night was Mardi Gras at the St. Mary's Church. They had an excellent variety of Cajun dishes to feast on and a great 4 piece band to entertain us. It was a fun evening. Photos below.
