Home From The Hills

Well, we are back home safe and sound from the mountains of North Carolina. After spending a whole week of being outside at all hours of the day and not popping one bead of sweat we pulled into the driveway at the lake house. As soon as I opened the door on the RV I knew the vacation was over. The humidity hit me like a wet mop. Within minutes the sweat was pouring off me. I need to have a meeting with my " occasionally loving " wife about moving to the mountains, at least for the summers.  Again I cannot rave enough about spending time with the Hayes family at Cardinal Ridge. Years ago I frequently read Readers Digest and in every issue they would have an article called " The Most Unforgettable Person I Ever Met ". Ken and Kathleen would have made a top ten article in Readers Digest under that category. So far my visits to their little spot of heaven on earth have been the highlights of our RV trips. Course, we go to Ireland next month so we'll see how they stack up then. The other thing I can't stress enough is the type of people we have met there. I won't go into names and careers but suffice it to say everyone we have met there was the type of person you would stand in line to get an autograph from. One hears all this stuff about family and family feeling but I feel those people that live on that little mountain are part of my family and they are welcome in my yard any time, any place. Ok, so much for gushing. Mary and I ate dinner at a cute little place called the Boiler Room. It was all fixed up with a Railroad Motif and was very, very good. After Church Sunday we went for breakfast to the Hungrey Bear only because the owner was a graduate of Johnson and Wales Chef Academy. It was a good substantial breakfast with a manly sized 4 egg omelet. Mary had some manly sized Buckwheat Pancakes. Herein lies the difference. The Hungry Bear was good for a fill up breakfast for a lumberjack. The Breakfast that comes at Cardinal Ridge is fit for a French Nobleman. In other words the difference between Waffle House and Ruth Chris. Last night was the comedy routine night. We went out to dinner with Ken and Kathleen and their parents. Talk about a comedy routine. Kathleen's mother is a Dummycrat and her father is a Republican. Talk about an interesting dinner conversation. I, of course, because of my shy and retiring nature did not participate in the political exchange. Not may photos tonight but I will include a photo of the Jurassic Park Turkeys that seem to thrive in the mountains and Sunflower Mary with some giant sunflowers.

  1. Hi Bill and Mary,
Thank you for your posts and pictures of Cardinal Ridge Farm...it brings back such good memories of last year when I met you and your current wife! Give her a squeeze and get one back...Hugs, Kate
