Brookgreen Gardens Myrtle Beach South Carolina

After sumptuously repasting on way too much turkey, dressing, gravy, apple pie and pumpkin pie Thursday my reason for living decided we needed to walk some of the excess calories off by walking through Brookgreen Gardens Friday. That also tied in with her never ending struggle to introduce me into the civilizing effects of culture and art. So far all her efforts toward this end have been in vain. So Friday we went to Brookgreen gardens. If you are ever in the area this is must see. Years ago they took three abandoned rice plantations and combined them in a huge garden and art display of bronze and stone sculptures. All this is in a forest of centuries old live oak trees. I will upload just a very few of the sculptures and the live oak trees. I'll throw in an interesting display of 1890's merry go round horses and other beasts that have been lovingly preserved. There are literally hundreds of bronzes and stone sculptures all beautifully placed in the midst of what can best be described as garden art settings. There is a maze on the grounds but we bypassed that. I get lost going to the local Food Lion so I didn't trust my sense of direction enough to try a maze.

  1. So glad you were able to tour Brookgreen Gardens. Isn't it beautiful! I have been there a couple of times and love the garden & sculpture. Love your photos of the carousel figures. Thanks for sharing!
