The Big Entrance By The Wait Staff
Wow! Double Wow! I scarcely know where to begin. Day 8 was our final day on the cruise ship and it was the best and most memorable day of all. Talk about finishing with a bang. We left Glacier Bay late in the evening and cruised most of the day headed for College Fjord. By the way, a fjord is what we in South Carolina would call a cove only bigger. We arrived about 6 in the evening. Alll day long the scenery was looking more and more like the Alaska in the brochures. The mountains got taller and snowier and craggier. When we pulled into college fjord the sight was jaw dropping and breathtaking. I was expecting to see a glacier but there were 6 of them. The ship stopped in the middle of the fjord and then started slowly circling. In the course of 2 hours I snapped dozens of pictures from every concievable angle. After that we went to the Rotterdam Room for our final meal on board. For the grand finale the entire cook and wait staff put on a floor show. First they made a grand entrance in single file waving napkins and singing a song. Then various members of the staff did small routines around the room. At one point they fired up a 5 piece band staffed by members of the wait staff. They were actually pretty good. The meal itself was fabulous. We wound up with the cruise starting slowly and building up with each stop to the final blow out on the last day. The poor guys going the other way will wind up with the good stuff first and each day will be a little less till they get to Vancouver. I like the way we did it better. Tomorrow will be a drive day as we leave the ship and ride a bus for 8 hours to get to Denali national park. I don't know what we will see, if anything tomorrow but I sure am wound up about the last couple of days on the ship. So far Alaska is living up to it's billing.
