Ocala Historic District

Yesterday we toured the so called Ocala Historic District. Like most other things in Ocala it didn't live up to it's billing. The houses in the district were average at best but the tree lined streets are magnificent. Ocala is live oak heaven. The Historic District itself was rather small and the best feature was the trees and the gated driveways. Pictures will be below. We had a fabulous lunch at the Ivy House restaurant which is in one of the old houses in the district that dated from the late 1800's. The food was off the charts and we even had some fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. After lunch we went downtown to the so called downtown historic district. It was positively depressing. It reminded me of the warehouse district in Columbia. At least Columbia is trying with the downtown Vista area but Ocala isn't even trying. Not much to do here in Ocala and we won't be stopping here again. The weather has been crappy what with constant cloud cover and intermittent rain. Today we will visit Silver Springs home of the glass bottom boats. Tomorrow we tour a horse farm that is known for creating the Gypsy Vanner breed of horses. If anything is worth reporting on I will but my expectations are rather low at this time. I should have stayed another week in south florida. I won't make this mistake next year. Central Florida weather isn't all that much different than central South Carolina weather. Photos and captions below.
