| All bundled up for the cold |
Friday was chill day. Martha and Ray came out to the RV park and we shared some steamed shrimp and wine. Saturday was a continuation of my adventures with the Catholic Church. We decided to go to Saturday afternoon mass being as Sunday was going to be a drive day and I didn't want to be pressured by going to church first and then packing up and hooking up to leave. We decided on the 4:00 mass. My trusty GPS device said it would take 30 minutes to get there so we decided to leave at 3:15 p.m. Wrong! When dealing with Fort Myers traffic DO NOT trust the time to arrive stated on the GPS device. Double it at the very least. Fort Myers has 4 way traffic lights every couple of hundred yds on all major thoroughfares. Each 4 way light has 2 left turn lights so by the time you go through the whole sequence you use up at least 5 minutes. Eventually we pulled up to the church right at 4:00 o'clock. I was astonished at the number of cars parked around the church. We had to park 3 blocks away and run to the front doors. I opened the front doors and was confronted with the largest gathering of Catholics I had ever seen. I estimate over a thousand were seated in the church. We walked around three sides of the church hoping to find a spot to sit but couldn't find an empty seat. Finally a kind hearted usher came up and led us to the front row to a pew marked Handicapped and pointed to two openings in the middle of the pew. The old ladies with canes gave us dirty looks as we climbed over them to get seated. Our church doesn't have a handicapped pew in the front row so when it came time for communion the priest came down and started offering each of us in the front row the host. When I declined he gave me a funny look like I was some kind of trespasser. I got the same look from the woman with the wine goblet. I need to redouble my efforts to get rich enough to join our local Baptist Church. Sunday was a drive day and we would up safe and sound at the Ocala RV Resort.
