Joe Btfsplk was a character in the satirical comic strip Li'l Abner by cartoonist Al Capp. Joe is well-meaning, but is the world's worst jinx, bringing disastrous misfortune to everyone around him. A small, dark rain cloud perpetually hovers over his head to symbolize his bad luck. Hi. My name is Joe. This all started several generations back when a Voodoo Priestess put a curse on the Lillie name. The way the curse worked was one descendent from each generation of Lillies would bear the burden. I happen to be this generations beneficiary of the curse. Day one. We fired up the RV to head south to Fort Myers Florida. I thought the starter motor was a little sluggish starting up but didn't think too much about it. We had an uneventful trip down to our first stop which was Brunswick Georgia. Nothing there to take pictures of and nothing to visit as we were only spending the night. Windy as the dickens with a strong, gusty wind blowing in off the Atlantic. Day 2 I didn't think I was going to be able get it started but it finally coughed to life. I made mental note to get this checked out when I got to Fort Myers. Spent the night at a really nice KOA park in Kissimmee, FL. Great park, neat as a pin and located on Seven Dwarfs drive. The next morning no go. Had to use the Auxialary start switch to get it to turn over and start. That is when the facial expressions started. I got at least 6 or 7 looks that would have turned an ordinary mortal into something small, furry and ugly or a pillar of salt. The snide comments didn't help either. They subsided after a couple of hours and it was a short hop from Kissimmee to North Fort Myers. Got backed in and all situated and gave it one last shot. Nothing. Dead as doorknob. The guy from the office gave me the business card for a mobile RV Repair guy so I gave him a call. As luck would have it he was close by and just finishing up a job. He went through all his battery checking stuff and concluded it was a bad battery. This is where the Lillie curse comes in. Last June, before we went to the mountains I told Tony's RV to put a new battery in the motorhome as I wanted to be double sure we had an uneventful trip. That was the trip the alternator and battery went out on the Mustang tow car. After replacing the battery and installing new terminals and a battery disconnect switch I asked him to put on we are up and running good as ever. The Lillie curse lives on. Today we spent walking around downtown Fort Myers which they have converted into a sort of artsy, craftsy tourist trap. It was very well done and they had a couple of fabulous antique shops with some real good stuff in them. We have only taken a few pictures which I will sort through and send on a different post.
